Why we are doing this

So you can sleep at night

Behavioral euthanasia is one of the hardest decisions a client can make as a pet parent.  The moment can be fraught with guilt, indecision, frustration, disappointment, anger and more.  As a veterinarian confronted with this request, we can feel fraught with similar emotions, especially if we do not feel we have all the information we need to make an ethical decision.  And not every client can pursue a consult directly with a veterinary behaviorist who can guide the veterinarian on what may be appropriate.  This is one way we can serve you the veterinarian, to help you sleep at night, to help you understand when its reasonable to proceed and when additional information may need to be gathered first. We hope this consult helps protect the mental health of every day veterinarians, who are tasked with what is at once the greatest burden and the greatest gift.
